Using widgets

Widgets allow you to customize the sidebar of your website.

Some ideas:
  • Show off random photos in the photo gallery
  • Link to the "most popular" content on your website
  • Show a "what's new" list
  • Display a farmer's market schedule on each page of your site

In the following screenshot, the outlined area in red is the "widget area". You can customize this area in the control panel by clicking Display / widgets / widgets.

Add custom widget

A custom widget allows you to type any text you like using Small Farm Central's text editor. Use the numbers on the screenshot below to see what each function does.
  1. Title: The title field allows you to put a heading at the top of your widget. This is not required.
  2. Text: Type any text you like into the text field. You can come back later to edit this text.
  3. Toolbar: The Small Farm Central toolbar allows you to do rich text editing, add photos, video, and more. You have all these options for creating your custom widget.
  4. Weight: This affects the ordering of the widgets. See this help file for more information.
  5. Narrow to: Show this widget on certain pages only. For example, if you wanted a custom widget on your contact page, you may put "/contact" in the narrow-to field. You may put multiple pages in this box, separating them by commas, if you like. This can be a confusing option -- contact Small Farm Central if you are having trouble with this functionality.
